    The Early Prophets, Joshua,Judges,Samuel,and Kings
    (SCHOCKEN BOOKS, 2014-04-14) Everett Fox
I AM HAPPY TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE HELP OF MANY PEOPLE, ON MANY DIFFERENT levels, in bringing this volume to completion. Foremost is Allen M. Glick, whose continuing kindness and generosity in funding my chair and my research have enabled me to travel to conferences and to more readily obtain the book and computing resources needed for a project of this type. The amount of material that has appeared on Joshua-Kings over the past decade alone, in the elds of history writing, philology, and archaeology, has been immense, with these books coming under detailed and often revised scrutiny. Hence, access to the pulse of research has been critical. I am grateful to my dear colleagues at the Department of Language, Literature, and Culture at Clark University. Over the years, our conversations both informal and formal, and team teaching in the department’s signature course, The National Imagination, have informed my thinking about a host of matters including identity and its representation. I am especially indebted for the atmosphere of good cheer that has pervaded these discussions.
