Let the Whole Church Say Amen! A Guide for Those Who Pray in Public

Abstract

This book has been decades in the making. Knowingly or unwittingly, throughout that time hundreds of students have contributed to its formation through prayers they wrote and submitted to me in worship classes. Over the years I came to sense the need for such a book; since then several generations of seminarians have worked their way through various drafts, pointing out to me difficulties and making helpful suggestions. To them I have gratefully dedicated this volume. The full faculty of Wesley Seminary has also read large sections of earlier drafts as a part of regular faculty study and discussion sessions in which we share our work-in-progress with colleagues and receive their critiques. I am appreciative of the affirmation given to me by my fellow faculty members and have tried to incorporate their insights into the text.
