Knowingly or unwittingly, throughout that time hundreds of students have contributed to its formation through prayers they wrote and submitted to me in worship classes. Over the years I came to sense the need for such a book; since then several generations of seminarians have worked their way through various drafts, pointing out to me difficulties and making helpful suggestions. To them I have gratefully dedicated this volume. The full faculty of Wesley Seminary has also read large sections of earlier drafts as a part of regular faculty study and discussion sessions in which we share our work-in-progress with colleagues and receive their critiques.
