When I started Bay Area Police Watch over 20 years ago, we had $10,000 and a closet as office space, literally. We went from opening up a hotline for survivors of police brutality and police misconduct to running a national organization that won international awards and recognition for our human rights efforts. Westopped jails from being built and got a horrible officer off of the street. And looking back on it, you know how we got there? A series of miracles: unexpected donations the day before we went broke, game-changing victories that propelled us forward after being on the brink of closure.
